Pretty boring for a first proper DW entry, I know, but I'm just seeing how this thing works...

Hello DW!

Galaxies!!

I was just pointed to this site by one of my very good RL friends, and OMG, it's *awesome*. It's a project called Galaxy Zoo and this is its second incarnation. It's run by a bunch of researchers from universities from all over and the basic idea is to help astronomers classify the structure of galaxies - something which is still more accurately done by the human brain than by a computer. It's great fun, so if you have a spare few minutes from time to time, do log in and classify a few galaxies!

Also, can someone please give me a quick kick in the arse? I should be writing and not playing with space... *g*

Many thanks to our wonderful betas – [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star, [livejournal.com profile] rissabby, and [livejournal.com profile] zinfic - all of whom have made this story much better. We also have to say an enormous THANK YOU to the amazingly talented [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star for creating the beautiful cover for the story. We are completely overwhelmed by how utterly perfect it is and cannot thank you enough. *hugs* Everyone, please do go tell her here how stunning her artwork is.

Summary: His existence, as he remembered it, began eleven days ago. He knew the word day was what to call the cycle between a single span of sunlight and darkness, but he could not remember what groupings of days were called. He didn’t think it mattered much.

I was supposed to be starting my new job today, but we woke up this morning to find Brighton covered by about 5 inches of snow. This being England, everything had ground to a halt, so what's a girl to do? Well, enlist the help of the husband and the next door neighbour's child and build a snow dalek of course!

*g*

I hope everyone else who has snow is enjoying it!

Thank you!

Wow, I'm a little stunned here... Since the notice went up that all the nominations for the [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_awards had been sent, I'd resigned myself to the fact that I'd not been nominated for anything. So I was completely surprised and totally thrilled when I received a nomination email this morning! I just want to say thank you so much for nominating me! ♥

First off, I'd like to wish everyone a very happy new year. I've been on LJ for a little over a year now am continually amazed by the talent and enthusiasm of everyone here. I feel very fortunate to be able to interact with you all and make my own small contribution to fandom. I hope that 2009 is full of joy and happiness for all of us. *hugs*

Secondly, as it's that time of year, I'm going to do a quick run-down of what I've written in 2008.

2008 Story List )

If you're interested, the story of which I'm most proud has to be When I Sorrow Most. It is, without doubt, the most intricate story I've written so far and, although at times I was worried it was going to defeat me, I am really pleased with the end result. I also have to say I'm very fond of Catalyst, as I'd always wanted to write an 'aliens made them do it' tale, and Inspiration, which is a piece of wonderfully self-indulgent math!porn. *g* And, of course, there's my [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang story, Down to Sleep, with which I am also really pleased. Finally, I have to mention my collaborations with [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison. She is a joy to write with and I have so much fun plotting with her and exchanging POVs. We've written quite a few stories together, but I think Chaos Theory, our McSheppy interpretation of the Rodney/Keller/Ronon love triangle, is my favourite of all of them.

I really feel that I've developed as a writer over the course of this year. I've taken part is so many challenges - [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang, [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match, [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa to name but a few - and formed many firm friendships. I have to give a special mention to the people who have really helped me to grow as a writer - [livejournal.com profile] zinfic who got me involved in fandom and encouraged me to write in the first place, [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison with whom I have had so much fun collaborating, and [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star who is a wonderful beta. They are all extremely talented writers in their own right and I feel so lucky to be able to count them amongst my friends. *hugs them all*

Here's to a wonderful year for all of us! ♥

Happy Christmas everyone! *hugs*

I had hoped that I'd filled my hospital quota for this year, having spent a week there with my grandmother, but apparently not... I came down with really painful stomach cramps on Saturday and by Sunday evening was feeling pretty awful. As a result, Monday was spent sitting in misery in waiting rooms and then having my stomach prodded (which was *horrible*) - first by my GP and then by a whole bunch of doctors in A&E. The doctors were worried it might be appendicitis, so I spent last night in hospital. Fortunately the pain got a lot better over the night and never moved to the right hand side (apparently a critical symptom for appendicitis). So, after more prodding by about 10 doctors all clustered around my bed in the ward this morning (how embarrassing!), I got the all clear.

So, I am home once more & very happy to be so! *curls up on the sofa with some peppermint tea and painkillers* I'm feeling much better now, still a bit nauseous, but nowhere near as bad as before.

I also got to open a *lovely* Christmas gift from [livejournal.com profile] vida_boheme. Thank you *so* much; they are absolutely adorable!! *hugs*

Oh, and Zin - your post made me smile 'cause I have matching bruises on *both* my arms from the cannula the A&E doctor put in... he couldn't get it in on the first arm he tried, so had to have a go on the other...

Well, it's bloody freezing outside & what better way to help keep warm than to wrap up in something soft, cozy, bright orange and filled with physicist?!

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] mcfleece is once again opening for business to help us all ward off the chill! So please do head on over to the comm and join in the fleece-y fun! We welcome any and all contributions - fic, art, icons, picspams, gen, het, slash, plot, porn, basically anything - related to the gloriousness that is Rodney McKay's wonder-fleece.

The Fleece Appreciation Challenge is brought to you by the brilliant (and slightly unhinged) minds of [livejournal.com profile] zinfic and [livejournal.com profile] the_cephalopod
